What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture works to create lasting changes in the body by restoring balance and initiating shifts by harmonizing, moving and clearing energy (Qi) via pathways in the body. These shifts are created by tapping into points along the meridians, or pathways, using whisker-thin needles. All acupuncture points have specific and synergistic purposes, and direct the body into a state of healing and relaxation.

Auricular (ear) acupuncture is a branch of acupuncture praised for its accessibility and ability to connect to the organ systems and nervous system via the brain. This is done by inserting needles into points on the ear that correspond to and communicate with certain functions and organ systems.

Additionally, there are several points on the ear that connect directly with the vagal nerve. As an integral part of nervous system regulation, the vagal nerve, when stimulated by acupuncture, can prompt the body to switch into a pleasant state of resting and healing. For those who would like an alternative to needles, there are options for non-penetrating topical “seeds” as well. These small seeds can be left in place to work their magic for up to three days.
